How did we get here

In 2022 the Architect Cristobal Canas founded Caracola. A project that combines several of his passions, including high-end design and craftsmanship, along with sustainability and nature.

Canas has a renown trajectory in his field. For over a decade he was senior designer and project manager at Handel Architects, New York City. There he led the design for over 50 projects worldwide.

In 2011 he was awarded with a recognition by the AIA (The American Institute of Architects) for his participation in the design of the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center.

In 2018 he embarked on a Van-Life adventure, living and traveling for a year in his self-converted Sprinter van through Canada, USA and México. During this time, he gained unique and practical know-how for the design, construction, and real use of tiny spaces.

After this life-changing experience, by being in close connection with nature and the simplicity of living, Cristobal’s approach to architecture shifted and he started to make his transition into the tiny house movement. Cristobal’s awareness on sustainability, renewal energies and smart design for reduced spaces now leads the vision at CARACOLA.

“Just as minimalism found its moment, now it’s the turn of the tiny house movement.”
